Te Urewera National Park (directions)

State Highway 38, between Wairoa and the central North Island, Rotorua and Taupo, passes Lake Waikaremoana and the visitor centre at Aniwaniwa. It has a gravel surface between Murupara and Aniwaniwa. It is about a 2 hour drive.

There is no road access at present to Otamatuna, the mainland island in the Waimana Valley via Matahi Valley Road. Check with the Department of Conservation.
